What is a Mental Health Evaluation?
A mental health evaluation is an important step in understanding your emotional and mental well-being. During this appointment, we’ll take the time to learn about your experiences, concerns, and goals. This helps us create a plan that supports your unique needs.
Common reasons people schedule a mental health evaluation:
Establish care and a treatment plan: If you’ve been feeling distracted, overwhelmed, low, or experiencing mood changes this evaluation helps identify what’s going on. Together, we’ll explore your symptoms, how they may be affecting your daily life, and discuss treatment options. (60 min)
Workplace or School Support: If you’re struggling at work or due to mental health challenges, I can provide documentation to help you request accommodations after we establish your treatment plan. This might include adjustments to your schedule or work/school environment to better support your well-being. (60 min)
Preparing for Bariatric Surgery: If you’re planning for bariatric surgery, this evaluation ensures you’re ready for the changes ahead. We’ll talk about your expectations, coping strategies, and the support you’ll need to succeed. (2 hours)
No matter your reason for reaching out, this appointment is a safe and supportive space to focus on you. We’ll work together to answer your questions, address your concerns, and create a plan that feels right for you.
What is Mental Health Medication Management?
Mental health medication management is a partnership between you and your healthcare provider to find and use medications that help improve your mental health. It’s about understanding how medications work, finding the right one(s) for you, and making sure they’re helping you feel better. These follow up appointments are approximately 30 min in length and are scheduled regularly after your evaluation.
How Does It Work?
Understanding Your Needs: I will take time to learn about your symptoms, history, and goals.
Choosing the Right Medication: If medication is appropriate I will recommend options that match your needs and explain how they work.
Adjusting the Plan: Medications don’t always work perfectly the first time. I will check in with you regularly to see how you’re feeling and adjust the medication or dose if needed.
Ongoing Monitoring: Medication can take time to work, and your body might need to adjust. Regular follow-ups ensure everything is on track and safe.
Your Role: You’ll share updates about how you’re feeling, report any side effects, and ask questions. This helps us make the best decisions for your care.
Why is Medication Management Important?
Medications can make a big difference in mental health conditions, helping to reduce symptoms and improve your quality of life. However, finding the right medication and dose can take time and requires careful monitoring to ensure it’s effective and safe for you.
What Else Should I Know?
Medication is often one part of a bigger treatment plan that might include therapy, lifestyle changes, or support groups.
Every person is unique, and what works for someone else might not work for you—and that’s okay!
Open communication with your provider is key to getting the best results.
